Single-family House in La Coruña
The property is located in the middle of the city. From the outside, it is a very compact volume, with very few openings towards the street, protected from the bustle outside . The facade opens gradually to the inner world of the courtyard, through which the house can be accessed. The property consists of eight different levels throughout a continuous space connected with a staircase and an elevator. A triple height goes through all the spaces. In the basement there is a sunken courtyard providing light, ventilation and life. The inside color gives great vividness and joy to the space. The wood brings warmth, frames and enhances the colors, serving as contrast and reference with respect to the white roofs . We try to create a spatial and temporal continuity . The wooden slats let us perceive space as a whole from any point of the house. This makes it possible to isolate and provide privacy, while the spatial unit is preserved. The temporal changes in light cause the appearance of many nuances between day and night , creating different and sometimes very suggestive views of the same space. The trust and freedom that the customer gave me were very important, allowing me to respond creatively and unconventionally about approaches that at first seemed inconsistent with each other. The work of the Maciñeira carpentry from As Pontes was fundamental.
